Perea Negotiated Deal to Defer $5.5 Million Fresno County Payment & Ensured Continued Medical Services for Fresno
SACRAMENTO Thursday, Assembly Budget Subcommittee #3 voted to approve a plan deferring Fresno Countys payment of $5.5 million for transportation maintenance-of-effort for five years and as a result Fresno County will continue providing medical services for the medically indigent. Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno) negotiated the deal between Fresno County and Budget Subcommittee #3 members in advance of the hearing. With a strapped budget, providing vital services can be difficult, said Assemblymember Perea. My goal in negotiating with my colleagues was to ensure Fresno County provides medical services to those most in need while maintaining fiscal stability. Perea sent a letter earlier this week describing the issue and outlining the solution to Assembly Budget leaders. Perea has been working on this issue for several months.
