Customers constantly complain about wasting their time and not being prepared for the harsh reality of human traffic and queues. Most of the time; we dont know how busy a public area will be at a particular point in time. To solve this problem we have come up this the idea of Q Down application to have stores install thermal sensors for people-counting. The device will simply act as a digital counter to the number of people in a store. This number will be saved and updated on a smartphone so you can make your own judgment as to whether to enter a store or not. 3. 2 INDUSTRY MOBILE RETAILING MONITORING INDUSTRY
Force: High/Low: Justification: Buyer power: Low Not many retail monitoring apps are around, there is an increasing number of apps (mostly free) that try to solve the problem of shop queuing(PC World) Supplier power: high To create the app will mainly require a platform developer (i.e. Platforms are iPhone, Android, Blackberry, etc.). The number of these developers has increased intensely from 2009. (Slideshare) Threat of new entrants: High Well-known app stores are difficult to get into (e.g. Apple, Google). However the MobileRoadie program allows users to build an app with little cost and time used.(MobileRoadie) Threat of substitutes: high There is a large number of ticketing kiosks that reduce the queuing phenomena. Substitutes include website queuing submissions, the use of physical tickets who is up next.(Isantail) Rivalry among existing competitors: high Sources says that Android apps between the years 2009-2011 have grown in sale just over 860% year-and-out, just over 130% for Apple apps. Due to this average selling price of the apps have reduced, many becoming free.(Slideshare)

3 Overall attractiveness of the industry: Building the product, task is becoming easier with the profusion of resources that are becoming cheaper example making the app and hiring a platform developer is become cheaper. However key difficulties exist; for instance there are various ways of overcoming public queuing through virtual queues and traditional ticket kiosks. Moreover app mobile price are reducing. 3.3 Customers and Their Needs This product is aimed at the shopper who doesnt have engough time to queuing up at store, this is nuisance because it gets rid of a resource we cant earn back in life, time. This Q down provides the customers from not queuing up at stores. For example, were in an emergency; we need to purchase a particular item in a shop. The shop that youve just selected may have a very large amount of customers that would slow down the shopping process considerably for you, and result in a great inconvenience for us. Therefore this application satisfies the customers needs by, you can make your own judgment as to whether to enter a store or not. 3.4 The Product and Service Q Down application cannot completely dictate when and where people are going to shop and wonder in Auckland. However, the users of Q-down would be at great advantage by knowing which specific stores and public areas that are sponsored by the thermal person count are busy and not busy. At least the public areas that are busy will continue to have busy people, the places that are not so crowded will solve for the cause of managing their time better for the user of the Q-down. Have stores install thermal sensors for people-counting, preferably overhead or to the sides of the main entrance. The device will simply act as a digital counter to the number of people that enter, exit a store. The number of people that are counted in the store will be saved, updated every 60 seconds, or whichever time interval seems feasible. 3.5 Suppliers and Partners The Suppliers are Apple App Store and the Google Android Market as they will be providing the applications to the consumers on their stores. Partners will be Westfield and NZTA. For examples Westfield plaza will be able to tell which stores are busy. Westfield can also see when their busy hours are and do promotion at those times to increase sales in the stores. At the same time Westfield can market our application to the customer. NZTA can see when there will be human traffic and transport around places to be control the traffic, also able to promote our application at the same time.
