Child: Najma

Teacher: Anar
Date: May
Spring came and the ground is slowly
covered by lots of leaves. Children were
playing freely as their choice. Some
children played in the leaves throwing it
in the air and some children stump on the
leaves. However Najma wanted the
ground to be clean then she asked me for
broom to sweep the floor. Najma always
likes to make her environment tidy and
clean. While she was sweeping, she saw
Steven and Alanzo were playing the wheelbarrow then she went to them and asked if she can
put the leaves in the wheelbarrow. Steven and Alanzo agreed her and all of them together put
the leaves in wheelbarrow and later put the leaves in rubbish bin. It was so nice to saw Najma
engaged with other children cleaning the leaves together. Later I have observed Najma was
quite spent long time to clean up the leaves all by herself and she enjoys it as well. When I
asked her if I can take picture of her pushing the wheelbarrow with leaves inside and she was
so delighted.

What learning do I think was happening here?
Providing an opportunity of what she enjoys to do, such as giving a broom for her sweep the
leaves, can contribute to her self-esteem and acknowledging her right of what she likes. She
also learns to socialize with other children by sharing their same interest of cleaning the
leaves together.
Pathways and Possibilities
As you quiet enjoy cleaning, Inxa Allah, we could arrange a cleaning day at centre for all
children to clean our classroom together.
