How It All Started
Theory #1
US and USSR couldnt agree
on how to rebuild Europe,
which caused disagreement
and tension.
Theory #2
Americans didnt help USSR
during WWII, so the Russians
sent spies to steal the bomb
plans for revenge.
The Cuban Missile Crisis
1962- United States caught the Soviet
Union building nuclear missile bases
in Cuba, 90 miles from US soil
Two Long Term Consequences
The US lived in fear for
over 50 years that they
would get bombed by a
nuclear attack at any
moment
The US and USSR had to
fight micro-wars in
Africa, Asia, Latin
America, and the
Middle East
NATO
An alliance with a lot of
nations to ensure safety
against communist
threats

Warsaw Pact
Was made in 1955 as a response to the
NATO alliance. A mutual defense
organization putting the Soviets in
command of Armed forces
Cold War Effects
Vietnam
1.5 Vietnamese are
killed, a civil war breaks
out, US leaves, and
Vietnam becomes
communist
Afghanistan
Soviet Union invaded
Afghanistan, over
100,000 soviet troops
took over. Communism
fell through.
Korea
Created the idea of the
Proxy war, encouraged
mutual use of nuclear
weapons, and spread the
Cold War. Which at that
point was mostly
concerned with Europe
Duck and Cover
A style of protection against nuclear explosions.
Usually hid under a desk or table, crouched and
covering head. The US taught it to school kids
from the 1950s to 1991
