cocaineisfound.Thelegalquestionathandiswhetherornottheevidencegatheredduringthesearch
ofJayZstrunkmaybeadmittedasevidence.

becausehewasstoppedbyanactorofthestateandhadareasonableexpectationofprivacyforitems

issuingawarningtickettothedrivercanbecomeunlawfulifitisprolongedbeyondthetimereasonably
requiredtocompletethatmission.Thiscasedealswiththeparametersofusingadrugsniffingcanine
duringtrafficviolationstopsandwillhelpustoidentifywhetherornotthedrugsfoundinJayZscar
wereobtainedlegally.
ItisclearlystatedinIllinoisvCaballesthattheuseofdrugsniffingcaninesduringalawful
trafficstopisperfectlylegal,aslongasthedogisonlybeingusedtolocateillicitsubstanceandthestop
isnotprolongedinorderforthedogstoconducttheirsearch.Wecanlookatthefollowingquotefrom
thefactsofthecaseasproofthatthestopwasnotinanywayprolonged,Whiletheofficerwhopulled
JayZoveriswritingaspeedingticket,theothersquadcarwiththedrugsniffingcaninepullsinfrontof
JayZsvehicle.Thedetailthatthedrugsniffingdogscamewhiletheticketwasbeingwritteniscrucial
toprovingthattheuseofthesedogswaslegal.Thedogswereonlyusedtoindicateprobablecauseof
therebeingdrugsinthetrunkofJayZscar.AccordingtoIllinoisv.Caballes,thedogsniffwas
sufficientlyreliabletoestablishprobablecausetoconductafullblownsearchofthetrunk.Thismeans
thatthedogswereusedtoestablishprobablecause,makingthesearchofJayZstrunkperfectlylegal.
TheevidencegatheredduringthesearchofJayZstrunkcanbeadmittedasevidencebecause
itwasobtainedlegally.TheuseofdrugdogsstayedwithintheparameterssetbytheIllinoisv.
Caballesrulingthedogsniffdidnotprolongthelawfulstopandwasonlyusedtoestablishprobable
causeofillicitsubstance.
