No surprise . . . Parlon
HOUSE prices have soared by 8.5 per
cent since last year, new Central Statis-
tics Office figures have claimed.
The CSO stats show property prices in
the capital were 17.7 per cent higher
than twelve months ago.
The Economic and Social Research Insti-
tute has said the rise can be blamed on
the shortfall in housing in Dublin. The
group said 25,000 houses need to be
built to meet demand. Despite the surge,
the CSO said prices in Dublin remain
48.5 per cent lower than their highest
level in early 2007 and the market in
Dublin would be susceptible to price
jumps until the supply issue is resolved.
Tom Parlon of the Construction Industry
Federation said: These statistics should
come as no surprise to anyone who has
been following the property market.
Outside Dublin, prices are 47.4 per
cent lower than the highest level in 2007.
