Antagonists Nazism: Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party the main antagonists in the Book Thief. They were the ones who made the awful events we see and the suffering of the characters. Setting in the Book Thief. Molching, Germany during WW2. A town that outskirts the concentration camp Dachau and they lived on the street Himmel Street which translates to Heaven. Conflict Liesel is only nine when her brother dies and she has to leave her mother and gets a new family. With this kind of disaster to her it gives her bad habit of stealing. First she steals a grave digger's handbook for beginners and then she starts to steal more books and occasionally food. Resolution Liesel decided that she would steal for the common good and she also wanted to read all the books she had stolen and so this helped her steal books without guilt and helped her learn how to read. Three major events The death of her brother is a main event because this is what gets her addicted to books and stealing them. Another event was the arrival of Max to Himmel street. He was a Jew in the heart of Germany. You could tell that it was going to be dangerous. Three major events One last major event was Hans handing bread to the Jew. The result of that was Hans being whipped and forced to go into the army which made Rosa realize how much she loved her husband. Before that happened she had thought she hated him. Spoiler If you havent read the book yet the next slide will be a spoiler. Conclusion In the end Liesel is writing a book about her life when Himmel street was bomb and everyone died except for Liesel. She then moved to Australia and lived peacefully and when she died, death gave her the book that she was writing when they were bombed. What I thought I recommend this to all readers because you will not want to put the book down when you start and it is a longer read so it doesnt end quickly. Also Markus Zusak wrote the book in a different yet very creative, which was a great change than the formal writing.
