Biosphere 2 Mission: FAILED
Website name: http://www.britannica.com/blogs/2011/09/years-glass-biosphere-2-mission/
On Sept. 26, 1991, eight peoplethe Biospherianswere sealed off inside Biosphere 2, a 3.14-acre glass
enclosure located in Oracle, Arizona. The event marked the beginning of the first Biosphere 2 mission, a study
designed to test survivability and to see whether a small group of humans could develop and live in a self-
sustaining colony, as one might imagine on some distant planet in outer space.
Resources were limited
Animals taking up resources and not producing enough in return
People had lost a significant amount of body weight
Seventeen months into the mission oxygen levels dipped to just 14.2 percent
Turned into psychological test
o Group of scientists began to form teams and steal resources from each other
Kind of a similar model but its not an ecosystem within itself and you could survive for several weeks in
case of a serious emergency.
