SWEET AND SOUR
Encouraged to see them grow, but sad to see them go

What an exciting but difficult time of the year! I am dreading
our last day together, but am also confident that God has
begun a good work in all of the students and will be
faithful to complete it. It has been an absolute joy getting to
know each and every student. I look forward to many visits
back to WCGS next year and I cant wait to hear how God is
continuing to work in their lives. It was also a pleasure to get
to know all of the parents. I am confident that you are the
key to your childs success. Thank you for your work at home
with them. May the Lord continue to bless you!

WHAT TO KNOW

Special thanks to our Room Moms for the year: Mrs.
Grandy, Mrs. Friedland, and Mrs. Pirrie. You
certainly made this year a memorable one for our
students!
Thank you, again to all of the parents that came to listen
to verses this week. It really meant a lot to me!
All students must bring a large bag (handles are
helpful) to school on Tuesday so that they can bring
home classroom and desk materials next week.
Students may bring their yearbooks to school next week.
On Wednesday, June 4 we will have our fifth grade
end-of-the-year outing at Pottawatomie Park in St.
Charles. Students will not need a lunch that day if they
ordered the Subway lunch. We will be leaving the school
at 9:30 and returning around 3:00. Students may wear
appropriate length shorts (mid-thigh) and non-collared
shirts.

Report cards will be sent home on Thursday.
This being my final newsletter, I want to say that it has
been a pleasure communicating with you.
Have an UNBEATABLE weekend!

WEEK AT A GLANCE
What DID we do this week?

5T Math: We spent our time this week looking at how to
solve 2 step algebraic equations. The class did an incredible
job with this difficult concept. We will conclude our time
together next week looking at integers and how to add them
along with a scavenger hunt with the entire 5th grade. I want
to encourage you to continue working with your child on their
math skills this summer so they will not miss a beat in sixth
grade!
Spelling: This year the students mastered 24 roots and
studied 100 related words. In addition they learned 210
spelling words, focusing on important spelling concepts in
the process. It has been especially exciting to hear them
making connections between the roots they have studied
and new words across the curriculum. Hopefully you will
also have the opportunity to hear them making great
connections as they encounter new words this summer.
Science: The students did an outstanding job on their bird
presentations. This year has been a fun-filled journey with a
wide range of topics and ideas. I want to encourage all of the
students to continue looking for signs of our Creator as they
are outside this summer. If we take time to examine the world
around us, there are clear signs of God's creativity and design
everywhere we turn!
Language: We completed our unit on opinion writing by
putting together class opinion essays about Outdoor
Education. They will be included in their fifth grade
scrapbooks. This week we also looked at various
persuasion techniques we encounter, especially in the
media. We will meet a couple more times next week and
will have fun reviewing the parts of speech with an end of
the year Mad Lib. The summer offers many opportunities
for continued growth in the area of language. Mad Libs,
crossword puzzles, word games, journals, letter writing,
and reading are not only great learning opportunities, but
can be fun for the whole family!
Social Studies: The students did a fantastic job as we
wrapped up the continent of South America with our Atlantic
South America test this week. They have truly demonstrated
great understanding of its geography and culture! I have
enjoyed having the opportunity to explore the world with
your child this year and learn about the diverse land and
people that God has created! I want the students to be lovers
of Gods creation and I hope that as they travel or interact
with different people they will be able to see the beauty and
creativity of God. Our fifth grade travels have been so
much fun and I look forward to hearing all the places these
students go in the summer and in the years to come!
