EMOTI ONAL AND PHYSI CAL BULLYI NG
Physical bullying is a form of bullying that physically harms the
person. It is making contact with the victim or
threatening/blackmailing them.
Emotional bullying can come on many different levels. And it is the
most common form of bullying
Emotional bullying can be name calling/insults, being excluded
and ignored, teasing etc. They are attempting to ostracize the
victim
Emotional bullying may not leave physical evidence on the surface
but it can still have a major impact
CYBERBULLYI NG AND RELATI ONAL
BULLYI NG
Cyberbullying is bullying that takes form over Facebook, Instagram,
Tumblr, text, email etc.
Cyberbullying has become an even greater problem over the years
due to advancements in technology
Cyberbullying is becoming a popular way to bully due to the ability to
stay anonymous
Cyberbullying can be anything from a mean picture to a nasty group
message
Relational bullying can be intimidation, spreading rumors or lies,
exclusion and coercion
BULLYI NG I N YOUNGER AGES
Cyberbullying is increasing in younger grades because kids are having
access to more technology
4th and 5th graders have laptops, smart phones, tablets etc
Social networking is at their disposal 24/7 and they may not fully grasp the
consequences of their actions
As we get older we may start to see the error of our ways
About 3.2 million children in grades 6-10 are victims of peer abuse every
year
About 3.7 million students abuse their peers
LGBTQ RI GHTS
Studies show that gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender students are at
high risk for peer abuse
They hear anti-gay slurs about 26 times a day or once every 14 minutes
More than 30% of LGBTQ youth were threatened or injured at school in
the last year alone
9 out of 10 LGBTQ youth report bullying
LGBTQ youth are 4x more likely to attempt suicide
WHAT CAUSES BULLYI NG?
There can be many factors when it comes to bullying
Some are peer pressure, psychological factors, physical factors,
stress etc.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF
BULLYI NG
There are many effects of bullying, some long term and some
short term
Effects can be: depression, anxiety, impact on grades, lack of
focus, stress, anger/lashing out, change in mood, changes in
sleep and eating habits, unwillingness to go to school, fear, loss of
interest in activities etc.

Works with schools in Santa Clara County
Works with elementary, middle and high schoolers

If you dont stand up to it you are participating in the bullying. They
are more likely to listen to friends, a child can have an impact
whether it be on a group of friends or just people.
You cant hate somebody when you know their story.

Respect yourself and one another, if something is out of line you
have to stand up for what is right. Youre worth too much to not
respect yourself, if youre not getting the support you need find
somebody who will give it to you.
Stop. And listen. Sometimes all people need is someone who is
willing to listen. It can make a difference.

Statistics show that 1 out of 20 students has seen a gun alone at
school
Approx. 282,000 students are physically attacked each month in
secondary schools
Among students those who were bullied were twice as likely to
commit murder than to be murdered
The motivation behind many school shooting is to seek revenge
In 2009 87% of school shootings were done with the intent to get
revenge on bullies

56% of students have personally witnessed bullying on school
grounds
Over 70% of students report bullying as a real problem in their
school
67% of students believe that schools respond poorly to bullying
and believe that adult help is infrequent and ineffective
1 in 10 students drop out of school due to repeated bullying
END THE CYCLE
Every day approximately 160,000 children miss school out of fear
15% of absences are directly related to bullying
According to a study done in 2013 1 in 7 students in grades K-12
is either a bully or a victim
Schools today are home to approx. 2.1 million bullies and 2.7
million victims Students in lower grades report being bullied twice
as much
This is proof that bullying often starts from a young age
