PROCEDURES FOR DEALING WITH PUPILS WHO GET FOUR

OR MORE ‘OUNSDALE 6’ (O6) SCHOOL DETENTIONS

The aims of these procedures are:

 To have a uniform set of procedures applicable to all pupils from Year 7 to Year 11.
 To intervene as early as possible with pupils who persistently disrupt lessons and are consequently regularly
given ‘O6’ Detentions.
 To improve the learning of all pupils by addressing the challenges presented by the disruptive pupils.

The Stages:
Stage 1:
When a pupil has received four ‘O6’ Detentions a letter goes home expressing our concerns about the repeated
disruption to learning and indicating the consequences if this pupil receives further detentions.

Stage 2:
When a pupil has received eight ‘O6’ Detentions the Head of Year or the Assistant Head of Year arranges a meeting
with parent/s and the pupil. At this meeting positive strategies will be agreed that are designed to improve the
situation.

Stage 3:
When a pupil has received ten ‘O6’ Detentions the pupil is internally excluded in the Isolation Room for one day.

Stage 4:
When a pupil has received twelve ‘O6’ Detentions a Governors’ Warning Meeting will take place with the parent/s
and the pupil, attended by the Head of Year and/or Assistant Head of Year along with the Assistant Headteacher
(Student Support) where the very serious nature of the situation will be made clear.

Stage 5:
When a pupil has received fourteen ‘O6’ Detentions then the pupil is excluded from school for one day. In addition,
a second Governors’ Warning Meeting will take place with the parent/s and the pupil, attended by the Head of Year
and/or Assistant Head of Year along with the Assistant Headteacher (Student Support) where the extremely serious
nature of the situation will be made clear.
