Windows XP
1. Disable Indexing Services
Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often
make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of
all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for
something on your computer, it will search faster y scanning the index lists. If you don!t
search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is
completely unnecessary. To disale do the following"

the page file.

Select the Advanced ta again and under 2irtual Memory select $hange
7ighlight the drive containing your page file and make the initial Si3e of the file the
same as the Maximum Si3e of the file.

default. )hile this is good for systems with smaller amounts of memory 4under 98:M;6 it is
unlikely that a typical ,% desktop system will ever need 8.9 , 98:M; or more of virtual

you have 98:M; or more, change the ratio to 8"8 page file si3e to physical memory si3e.

.our desktop ackground consumes a fair amount of memory and can slow the loading time
of your system. Removing it will improve performance.
