Standard/Essential Learning: 5.V.5a & b: a) Interpret figurative language, including similes and metaphor, in
context; b) Recognize and explain the meaning of common idioms, adages, and proverbs
SMART Goal: By the end of T2, students will increase their pre-assessment score by 20% OR 80% OF
STUDENTS WILL ACHIEVE 80% PROFICENCY in demonstrating their understanding and ability to
interpret figurative language including similes, metaphors, common idioms, adages, and proverbs.
Plan: Using CFAs to pre-test and determine leveled groups, each teacher will instruct for 2 to 3 weeks then we
will post-assess. The groups will be fluid with students moving from teacher to teacher based on proficiency.

Reflections: Our students showed great success with figurative language. While they didnt all achieve
proficiency, all but one student who recently joined the class from Voyager intervention achieved their goal by
increasing their post assessment score by at least 20% over their pre-assessment score.
