Ter m 2, Week 5, 4 June, 2014

Dear Parents and Caregivers

What should Riverview School be like in five years?
What do you want included in the curriculum?
What should we prioritise in our planning?

The Board of Trustees will be hosting a Consultation Evening in the hall on the evening of Thursday
26 June, and wants to hear from all families. The evening will be a lot of fun (drinks and nibbles
supplied), and the information you give will form the basis for writing a new Strategic Plan for the
school.

Please book this date in your diaries now as it is only three weeks away.

Thank you to the Student Council Members who covered my space in the newsletter last week.
You did a great job.

Cross Country: This is planned for Tuesday of next week. It is a fun, all-school event, and we will
be going to the Landcorp farm on Takou Bay Road again. Children do spend the first part of the
morning in class so all are expected to be at school at the normal time. We will then bus the
whole school out to the event. We are very grateful to several business and individuals for
contributing to the cost of these buses.

The Rhythm Interactive Show, planned for today, has been cancelled. The company comes from
Australia and had three schools booked in Northland, but the other two withdrew, which made
coming here financially impossible. We have another show in Term 4 and, rather than refunding
the money, we are holding it as a payment for that show.

Ms Fleur Purdeu has taught at Riverview School since the middle of 2006 and has been a
valued and effective teacher during these years. Unfortunately, she has suffered some
serious health issues and has been unable to return to teaching following the birth of her daughter
early last year. Ms Purdeu has reluctantly tendered her resignation, allowing herself to focus on
her own full recovery and also allowing the school to move forward with a more settled staffing
arrangement. I wish to express the schools appreciation for her years of service at Riverview and
wish her a full recovery and happy future. Miss Sheree McCauley will continue teaching Room 4
until the end of the year.

Dogs in the School Grounds:
A reminder that Riverview School will
not allow dogs in the grounds during
the hours in which children are
normally here (8am to 5pm).
Parent Contribution: Each year, families are
requested to make a contribution to the school to
supplement the funding provided by the Government. As
a higher decile school (decile 8) we receive
considerably less funding than lower decile schools and,
in order to cover the difference, we rely on
contributions from families.
The donations for 2014 are:
One child at Riverview School: $160
Two children at Riverview School: $300
Three or more children at
Riverview School: $450
The Board would be delighted to receive donations
greater than this from families who can do so. Many
high decile schools in large centres ask for two or even
three times this amount, so please consider this if you
are able. All donations are tax deductible and a
receipt for this purpose will be issued. Some families
have already paid this donation for 2014. THANK YOU.

Phone or text messages for children to the
office by 2.30pm daily please.

child last week. Sausages will be $2 each and money and forms are required

Can you help on Tuesday 10 June at the School Cross Country?
If you are able to help on the day by cooking sausages, serving food and drinks,
erecting gazebos. Please contact Sian Williams on 4071323 or email sekwilliams@xtra.co.nz
Please note - there is no Year 2 Assembly this
week.

Students banking weekly can win a share of $10,000.00.
We want to help teach children the value of saving each
week. Every week that they deposit $1.00 or more into
their ASB Headstart account, theyll go into the weekly
draw to win either a $20, $50, or $100 cash prize. This is
sure to fast track their savings. If you are interested in
your child banking with the ASB, call into the school oce
and pick up an applicaon form.
Fuel for Schools is a school
sponsorship programme that
provides all schools
throughout New Zealand
with an innovative way to
raise additional funds.
Southfuels and Northfuels developed the Fuel
for Schools programme as a way of supporting
the rural communities where the majority of our
customers reside. They set aside a portion of
their marketing budget each year to absorb the
costs of the donations so customers are not
charged a premium on their fuel for
participating in the programme. Its Northfuels
way of saying thank you and putting something
back into the community.
CHILDREN COLLECTED BY CAR
Children must wait at the roundabout at the end of
the day, supervised by a teacher until 3.15pm.
Should children not be picked up by 3.15pm, they
then wait at the flagpole by the
school Office. Office staff will
phone you to check on your
arrival time.
