Opening Statement
Today we defend Brutus in the first degree murder trial of Julius Caesar. Brutus
has many characteristics to take note of. First of all he is kind, very noble, and a
honorable man, he defends Rome and is a good husband. Each witness will support
Brutus and each decision he has made. Portia will defend Brutus and helping to prove
that he is actually legally insane, and the others will testify for her and for Brutus.

The witnesses we have will be Portia, Brutus, Casca a dear friend of him, cassius,
lucillius, his servant, and Mark Antony. Each witness is going to defend Brutus in their
testimony. Each witness will talk about the corrupt tyranny Caesar was going to bring to
Rome as a leader. Brutus was not in the right state of mind to recognize the difference
between fantasy and reality; this is called legally insane. Since Brutus was not in the right
frame of mind, Cassius thought of the plan to plant the murder of Julius Caesar in his
head.

Each witness is going to be able to defend Brutus and his innocence. Brutus
characteristics all match up perfectly, and show how great of a person he is. He would
never do something to destroy his family, and let down his precious city. If he was a part
of killing Caesar, he did it to protect Rome from tyranny. Caesar was planning to control
all of Rome and be a dictator. No Roman citizen wants to live a slave.

The prosecutors may point out how Brutus continuously snuck around at
nighttime, however we have Portia as a witness to testify. Also we are expecting the
prosecutors to bring up conversations of swords Brutus and Cassius had on page 73.

After this the court trial the defense will take their turn and prove why Brutus is to
be declared legally insane. Now we tell our key, winning points. This trial is to be fair,
non corrupt, and we plan to prove this honorable, noble man innocent.
