Dos and Donts

in Job Interview
Dos in Job Interview (1)
Offer a firm handshake, make eye contact, and
have a friendly expression when you are greeted
by the interviewer.
Dos in Job Interview (2)
First Impressions. While waiting, don't hunch your
shoulders or tuck your chin into your chest, which will
make you seem closed off. Sit with your back straight
and your chest open -- signs that you're confident and
assertive.
Dos in Job Interview (3)
Show your enthusiasm by keeping an interested
expression. Nod and make positive gestures in
moderation.
Dos in Job Interview (4)
Position your head. Keeping your head straight
looks self-assured and authoritative, it sends the
message that you should be taken seriously.
Dos in Job Interview (5)
Stand up and smile even if you are on a phone
interview.

Dos in Job Interview (6)
Use good grammar and good diction. Say yes, not
yeah. Dont fill pauses with um, uh or ah. Dont
punctuate sentences with you know, like, see or
okay.
Say Goodbye Gracefully
Donts in Job Interview (1)
Be conscious of mouth movements. Pursing the
lips or twisting them sideways shows disapproval
of what is being heard. Biting your lips suggests
nervousness. Try to relax your mouth.
Donts in Job Interview (2)
Shifty Eyes. Friedman says distracted or upward
eye movements can suggest someone is lying or
not sure of themselves.
Donts in Job Interview (3)
Stare back blankly. This is a look people
naturally adapt when they are trying to distance
themselves.
Donts in Job Interview (4)
Don't cross your arms. Folding arms across the
chest suggests a defensive type of position. It
sends the message that the candidate is feeling
threatened and ill-at-ease and is shutting the
interviewer out.
Donts in Job Interview (5)
Cross your legs and idly shake one over the
other. It's distracting and shows how
uncomfortable you are.
Donts in Job Interview (6)
Leaning back is lazy or arrogant, leaning forward
is aggressive and slouching is just lazy.
Donts in Job Interview (7)
Hands Behind Back. It's important to appear
approachable and open, so don't try to control
gestures or fidgeting by keeping your hands still.
