Bizarre Dream

2/15/14

I was lounging in the den with my mother and father, each of us hopelessly entranced by the
ghostly glow of our phones. The summer air smothered us the way a monsoon smothers a
cigarette. Without warning, my brother burst into the room, out of breath and grinning from ear
to ear. "There's supposed to be a meteor shower tonight," he said, "and the meteorites are
supposed to land here in a few minutes!" I leapt from the couch and ran to join him in furtive
anticipation. We settled into a cranny in the laundry room, a small enclosed garage-that-wasn't
with a single window. We crammed ourselves amongst the assorted odds and ends that had
found their way our nook by the window. We didn't have to wait long. It seemed as soon as we
sat in our respective spots, the world shook. Streaking missiles of rock obliterated the lawn, one
after the other. My brother and I disengaged ourselves from the bric--brac and ran back to our
parents. They were planted in their seats, immobilized by a awe inspired shock. The sky was
falling down around us. My dad solemnly remarked, we are not going to survive this guyBOOM
As if to punctuate his point, a boulder the size of an office building impaled the earth, the impact
reverberating for miles. Then panic struck. "What are we doing?!? We need to find shelter!
There has to be somewhere safer than here!" We scrambled from the den and huddled under the
family piano that had sat unused for years. We waited. The earth trembled around us. Then,
silence echoed. The door creaked open and the room filled with mist. We stared in terror as two
bodies stalked into the room. Then, we stared in confusion. Two short, grey, humanoid creatures
with bulbous, wrinkled heads and long white ovals for eyes had walked into our house. The
strangest thing was, they were both wearing New York Giants football jerseys.
