COMPOSITION

The act of combining the


different elements of
photography to form a whole
photo of those elements
required.

Rule of thirds Divided into 9 equal segments. It is used for positioning
important elements in the image
Leading lines Audience is drawn to the subject along the lines. The
many different types of lines include; straight, diagonal, curvy, zigzag etc.
Symmetry and Patterns Can make for very eye-catching
compositions, mainly in situations where its not expected. A great way to use
them is to break the symmetry or pattern
Use of space A simple technique that involves applying motion or
activity in the image. This can be used by using negative/open space in front,
behind or beside the subject in the image.
Frame within a Frame Adds depth and context to a photo. Draws
attention of the viewer to a certain point. There are different techniques used
in the composition, such as; Foreground Frames, Background Frames,
Depth and Paths.
Point of View A sequence of a shot that is made to look like its from a
specific living or objects perspective. This may consists of angle shots such
as; Low and High angle, Worms Eye View, Birds Eye View
High angle P.O.V. shot Low angle P.O.V.
