Ang ALS ang siyang naging daan ng aking tagumpay.
Chona was an ALS learner in 2005. Now, shes one of our ALS mobile teachers. And
this is her storya story about hope and determination despite difficulties, a story about
rising above lifes challenges and going beyond call of duty.
Like many others, she stopped schooling because of financial difficulties. At the young
age of 10 years old, she started working as a helper. She tried juggling her work and
her studies at first, but her employers were strict. Having no choice on the matter, she
gave up her education so she can help her family.
She got married early. In 2003, she was encouraged by Leticia B. Bangcong, an ALS
coordinator, to join the ALS learning sessions. She was hesitant at first because of her
children. In 2004, she took the A&E test, but beginners luck didnt prove to be on her
advantage. She tried again in 2005, and was able to pass the test. She enrolled in
college with two scholarships. In 2009, she obtained her degree in Elementary
Education. She also passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) that same
year.
After teaching in a private school, she went back to her province to help and educate
her kababayan. She has been an ALS mobile teacher ever since
