CARE OF THE NEW TATTOO

(a) Each time tattooing is performed the client shall receive oral and written
instructions on the care of the area tattooed. The client shall sign a written
statement in the permanent client record acknowledging that the client has
received a copy of the written care instructions, and that the client has read and
understands the instructions.
(b) The written care instructions for tattooing shall contain at least the following
items:
(1) for at least two weeks, the need to minimie e!posure to the sun, and to
discourage swimming in fresh, salt, or chlorinated water"
(#) the need to properly cleanse the tattooed area"
($) the need to apply antibiotic ointment or cream"
(%) the need to use sterile bandage(s) or other sterile dressing(s) when
necessary"
(&) the name of the artist, and the name, address, and telephone number of the
studio or temporary location" and
(') the instructions for the client to consult a health care practitioner at the first
sign of infection or an allergic reaction, and to report any diagnosed infection,
allergic reaction, or adverse reaction resulting from the application of the tattoo
to the artist.
TATTOOING INFORMATION:

$. 2arefully remove bandage and apply an antibiotic ointment using a very thin
coat. ,pply #3% times daily for at least three days. (nipple cream or 4ngrims

could occur.
&. ,void sunburn, salt or chlorine water, or hot tubs until your tattoo is
completely healed. ( # weeks)
'. 4n the event mild scabbing occurs, /* )*T pick at or attempt to 5wash off5.
,llow the scabs to slough off naturally. 0ou may apply a mild skin lotion to keep
5flaking5 to a minimum.
6. )ote: 4n the first weeks, the colors in your new tattoo may look 5hay5 or not
as bright as they did when it was first applied. /o not be alarmed, it is a normal
course of healing and will clear up in a few short weeks.
IMPORTANT:
ANY COMPLICATIONS OR SIGNS OF INFECTION SHOULD BE REPORTED
IMMEDIATELY.
