Social Studies 8: Drawing your own map

In pairs, open Google Earth on your iPads.

Search for Mud Bay, Surrey, BC, Canada

Use the navigation tool to find the area you visited yesterday.

Use the navigation tool to find the route you took from Delview to your destination. This task will be
easier if you keep the zoom slider in the middle.

Explain why the numbers at the bottom of the screen change as you use the navigation tool.

Choose one of the following:

a. Draw a map of the Mud Bay area. Go west as far Boundary Bay Airport, east as far as King
George Blvd, south as far as Crescent Beach, and north as far as Highway 10.
Label the following on your map:
Highway 99
Highway 10
Highway 91
King George Blvd.
Boundary Bay Airport
Use a legend to show the following:
Golf Courses (at least 3)
Tourist Attractions (at least 3)
Schools (at least 2)
The area in which you completed your beach clean-up
Your map should also include a compass and a scale.


b. Draw a map of the North Delta area. Go west as far as Annacis Island, east as far as Scott Road,
south as far as 64
