The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceanic divisions. It extends from the
Arctic in the north to the Southern Ocean in the south, bounded by Asia and
Australia in the west, and the Americas in the east.

the northwest by Russia, to the west by Azerbaijan, to the south by Iran, to the
southeast by Turkmenistan, and to the northeast by Kazakhstan.
The ancient inhabitants of its coast perceived the Caspian Sea as an ocean,
probably because of its saltiness and seeming boundlessness. It has a salinity of
approximately 1.2% (12ppt), about a third of the salinity of most seawater.
