One day, t he Dog coul d no l onger r esi st t he ar oma of t he r i ce and somehow
managed t o sneak i nt o t he El ephant s shed. He at e t he gr ai ns of sweet
r i ce t hat f el l f r omt he El ephant s mout h. He l i ked t he r i ce so much, t hat
he st ar t ed goi ng t her e dai l y t o eat t he r i ce. For days, t he huge El ephant
di dn t not i ce t he smal l dog as he was busy enj oyi ng t he del i ci ous f ood.
Gr adual l y, t he Dog gr ew bi gger and st r onger eat i ng such r i ch f ood.
Fi nal l y, t he El ephant not i ced hi mand al l owed hi maccess t o t he f ood.

The El ephant enj oyed t he company of t he Dog and st ar t ed shar i ng hi s f ood
wi t h hi m. They al so st ar t ed spendi ng t i me wi t h each ot her and soon became
good f r i ends. They at e t oget her , sl ept t oget her and pl ayed t oget her .
Whi l e pl ayi ng, t he El ephant woul d hol d t he Dog i n hi s t r unk and swi ng hi m
back and f or t h. Soon nei t her of t hemwas happy wi t hout t he ot her . They
became gr eat f r i ends and di dn t want t o be separ at ed f r omeach ot her .

Then one day, a man saw t he Dog and asked t he El ephant - keeper , I want t o
buy t hi s Dog. What pr i ce do you want f or i t ? The El ephant - keeper di dn t
own t he Dog but sol d i t and ext r act ed a sumof money f r omt hi s deal . The
man t ook t he Dog t o hi s home vi l l age, whi ch was qui t e f ar away. The
Ki ng s El ephant became ver y sad af t er t hi s i nci dent . He mi ssed hi s f r i end
a l ot and st ar t ed negl ect i ng ever yt hi ng. He di dn t want t o do anyt hi ng
wi t hout hi s dear f r i end, so he st opped eat i ng, dr i nki ng and even bat hi ng.

Fi nal l y, t he El ephant - keeper r epor t ed t hi s t o t he Ki ng; however he di dn t
ment i on anyt hi ng about t he Dog. The Ki ng had a wi se mi ni st er , who was
known f or hi s keen under st andi ng of ani mal s. The Ki ng or der ed t he
mi ni st er , Go t o t he El ephant shed and f i nd out t he r eason f or t he
El ephant ' s condi t i on. The i nt el l i gent mi ni st er went t o t he El ephant shed
and f ound t he El ephant ver y sad. He exami ned t he El ephant and asked t he
El ephant - keeper . Ther e i s not hi ng wr ong wi t h t hi s El ephant s body, t hen
why does he l ook so sad ? I t hi nk t hi s El ephant i s gr i ef st r i cken,
