Kia ora koutou
A warm welcome to Jennifer and Cindy Garton who have settled into their new classes. Nau mai, haere mai
ki te kura o Paihia.

First of all a message of aroha and support to Miss Hadwin. She is MUCH better now and has been
discharged from Whangarei Hospital. She is recovering at home after collapsing at school yesterday.
Whaea Barb is in Room 6 today and Mr Brent Davies will be in on Friday. A reliever, Mrs Sarah Biddles will
take Room 6 next week. I would like to acknowledge all the staff of Paihia School who managed a difficult
day in a very professional manner.

A further thank you to all the parents who came to parent interviews yesterday. There was a good turnout. It
was encouraging to hear the positive comments about the interviews and written reports. If you have any
concerns or questions regarding the interviews please feel free to see me. If you were unable to attend
interviews, please arrange a time with your childs teacher so you can discuss your childs progress and
achievement, and also collect your childs report.

What an eventful week. Today we had planned to walk to Waitangi to make kites with Mr Harko Brown.
Instead he came to school and taught Hakariki weaving a flax ball and playing an associated game, plus
the legend attached to it. On top of that Pio arrived with a television crew to capture footage of students
learning traditional games for a programme to be aired called Te Araroa: Tales from the Trails. Students
who were involved in the television footage have brought home a form to consent to being on TV. Our junior
classes and those students not going to Maromaku now have the opportunity to make kites tomorrow. All
those students have brought home a permission slip today. A reminder that a gold coin koha is required for
these programmes. We are VERY lucky to have this opportunity to learn from Mr Harko Brown.

Maromaku sports day is tomorrow. A reminder that all rugby players require a mouthguard. Once again
thank you to all the parents who have offered to transport, assist and support our students. Ka nui ng mihi
ki a koutou mo ou koutou awhi ki ng tamariki mokopuna o ttou nei kura.

On Monday we are opening a second new entrants class as our numbers are so high. Mrs Diane Neumann
will be teaching new entrants in Room 0. I can assure you she is working very hard to prepare the room so
it is ready for our young students.

We are looking forward to sharing our Matariki knowledge and performing kapa haka next Friday 27th June.
We also plan to have a shared lunch together. Parents and whnau are warmly invited to be part of our
learning about and celebration of Matariki. Watch this space for the exact plans for our Matariki Whnau
Day.
Ka pai ou wiki koutou katoa, Have a great
week.

Jane Lindsay
Principal

New Lunch Menu
Freshly made sandwiches and filled rolls are
available to order on Wednesdays and
Fridays. Sadly, sushi and noodle soup is
off the menu for the winter. We are still
hoping to offer some more healthy options and
will keep you updated in the newsletter.
Any suggestions?
