Indictment Issued for Murder of Marlo McQuillar

An indictment has been issued against Brandon Lee Smith, 21, formerly of Fredericksburg,
charging him with the first degree murder of victim Marlo McQuillar. Mr. McQuillar was found
shot to death at 11:45 pm on July 27, 2007 in the parking lot of Forest Village Apartments. At the
time of his death, Mr. McQuillar had just finished the late shift at his job and was en route to pick
up his young son, who lived in the apartment complex with his mother.

Smith is currently incarcerated for the homicide of Dasan Richardson, who was shot and killed at
the Mi Casa Restaurant in Fredericksburg on January 12, 2008.

Detective Tim Garrett is the lead investigator in the murder of Marlo McQuillar, and the current
indictments against Smith are due in large part to Detective Garrett’s tireless efforts and persistence
on behalf of the victim and his family. The Fredericksburg Police Department is grateful for the
invaluable assistance provided in this case by Special Agent Bruce Hough of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation and Investigator Bill Lewko of the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office.
