Marianne Marts sibling, guardian, author, speaker and consultant.
As a rst time author
of Will You Be My Friend? 1st book in the Joey's Ups with Downs Series walks us through what it's like living with a disability and trying to have real friends who will share their love, while disregarding any differences (a great anti-bullying tool). My oldest brother Joey who has Down syndrome and is the main character helps teach children we are more alike than different. I am the youngest of six children and the only girl, former special education teacher, and now a professional adult disability consultant - helping families prepare for transition of care. Using our family journey to help yours. As Joey's guardian I wear many hats including advocate but being his sister is my most valued role! Being guardian isnt always easy, but most often it is a blessing. I feel strongly that the written word can help send messages to society about the importance of valuing, accepting and including people with disabilities and relating to the sibling cause and the important and often over looked issue of transition of care. My websites are great additional resources for advocacy, transition of care and sibling issues: www.joeysupswithdowns.com. Can be found on most social media sites under Joeysups!
