3. MATLAB Programming Assignment

The lifting mechanism mounted on a truck is shown in following figure. It is used to lift a weight 5000
Kg from position A to position B which is 5 m above the ground.
At what configuration of mechanism while load is being transferred, the link DE and EF will have
Maximum von Mises stress. Find the maximum stresses and check whether the cross sections of the
members are enough. What is the Factor of Safety?
E for steel= 220 GPa, allowable= 350 MPa.
Develop a Matlab code to analyze the 2-D mechanism considering each member can take axial and
bending loads in the vertical plane.
