Guidelines for each role:

Constructive:
Must introduce the topic and arguments (thesis)
Gives 3 main reasons for your opinion
Must use at least 3 pieces of evidence
Must use 3 persuasive devices
Tips for groups dividing this role:
Decide on your reasons together.
Divide the writing and speaking evenly: 1 person writes/presents the intro, first reason and conclusion; 1 person
writes/presents the 2 other reasons.
Rebuttal:
Considers what the other team will say
Plans 4-5 possible counter arguments
Presents 3 of the counter arguments on the day of the debate
Must use at least 3 pieces of evidence
Must use at least 3 persuasive devices
Tips for groups dividing this role:
Talk about the counter arguments together.
Divide the writing and speaking evenly: 1 person writes the first 2 counter arguments and presents 1 on debate
day; 1 person writes the second 2 counter arguments and presents 1 on debate day.
Evidence Presenter:
Keeps track of evidence used, including note sheets.
Makes sure that 3 sources are used in the debate.
Checks all sources to ensure that they are reliable.
Makes a works cited page.
Is in charge of any graphs or visuals that may be used in the presentation.
On presentation day, presents the main arguments of the group and each source used with an explanation of
why it is reliable.
Tips for groups dividing this role:
Evaluate the sources together, to ensure that they are reliable.
Divides the writing and speaking: 1 person evaluates and keeps track of 2-3 sources; the other person evaluates
and keeps track of 2-3 sources. Divide the summary of arguments for speaking. Present the evidence and
sources that were your responsibility.
