Comprehensive Attendance Policy 2013- 2014
St. James Collegiate Attendance Policy
The total periods of absence (excused and unexcused) within each course must not exceed 12 classes. Students
who exceed this maximum will be placed on credit withheld status. This means they will have lost the credit at
that point but will remain in the class. They have the opportunity to regain the credit by making up all of the
absences. f they have 1! combined unexcused and excused absences they need to make up all 1! classes. They
will be given up to one month after the completion of the course in order to make up the time and gain back the
credit. "xceptional circumstances will be considered on a one to one basis. .". #edical conditions$ etc%
& room will be set up where the students can make up time either over the lunch hour or after school.
Step by step procedre !or dealing "ith absences#
Step 1: & letter will go home the instant a student reaches ' absences in any of the courses they are taking. This
letter will outline the attendance policy and make clear the procedures followed by the school.
Step 2: & letter will go home the instant a student reaches ( absences in any of the courses they are taking. This
letter will serve as a second reminder of the need to have students attend regularly.

Step 3: f a student reaches ) absences in a course$ they will meet with an administrator to discuss the reasons
for the absences$ the need for future attendance and contact will be made with the legal guardian by phone.

Step 4: f a student reaches 1' absences in a course and there are no exceptional circumstances$ the student will
be placed on *credit withheld+ status. & letter will be sent home to inform parents. The student will have up to
one month after the completion of the course to make up A$$ classes missed and regain the credit in ,uestion.

&ll students who are late for class must obtain a late slip from the office. f a student fails to obtain a late slip
they will be marked absent by their teacher and it will remain as an absence. -hen they obtain the late slip their
name and time they received the slip is recorded by the office staff. f a student is habitually late they may be
asked to meet with an administrator and time (detention) may be re,uested in order to deter future tardiness.
