... In a recent visit to Madison, Dolores Huerta, vice president of the United Farmworkers Union and Cesar Chavez's most trusted lieutenant, remembered Kennedy in her own way.
"He was always there when we needed him," she said. "He never came in with the attitude that he knew what was best for us. He would always ask how we wanted to use him, how he could help.
"You know," Huerta added after a reflective pause, "when he spoke he kept his hands under the podium. He kept them there because they shook when he spoke"
And so it was that Kennedy came to touch many people, not always by what he said but by what he did. ...
