Dear Sara Jennings,
I am writing to you per your inquiry about the city of Lexington and its surrounding areas. You
also asked about the job market as it pertains to nurses in the area. I hope this information will
entice you to visit and even take up residence in the area.
Lexington is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The city is home to 7,170
residents. It houses two colleges, Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute.
Rockbridge County is an area rich in history, therefore the primary economic activity stems from
higher education and tourism. There are many small retail businesses, bed and breakfast inns,
and restaurants. Our county is located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, and has
picturesque landscapes and numerous outdoor activities. The climate in the area is mild to cool
winters and hot humid summers.
There are jobs available ranging from Licensed Practical Nurses to Director of Nursing. We
have a sixty bed and growing nursing home facility named Kendall. This facility employs
certified nursing assistants, nurses, and is in the process of looking for a Director of Nursing.
Lexington has one hospital which has a number of opportunities. Stonewall Jackson Hospital
which is part of the Carillon family is seeking skilled Surgical Technologist. This job requires
licensed practical nursing experience. There are several outpatient clinics seeking infusion nurses
which require chemotherapy certification and oncology experience. There are also opportunities
available for correctional nursing. Lastly there are numerous assisted living facilities in the area
some are looking for registered nurses and unit managers who are nurses. So the field in nursing
is vast in a number of disciplines as well as management and administration.
I do hope the information helps you. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely yours,

Sam Treetops
