Modialert: By calling Modi a disaster, Man Mohan Singh wittingly or unwittingly picked up a historical

challenge
Though the course of history has changed since then, still it remains a point to be pondered that what
was on Man Mohan Singhs mind when he called Modi a disaster for the nation. His well known
economy with words gained a tag of infamy during his last leg as the prime minister. Some would say his
silence was the last nail in Congresss coffin. If he was conscientiously tight lipped, he still scored by
tacitly supporting the change against corruption, he was lately at pain with.
He often chose silence even when words could have been golden perhaps. Having an image he acquired
with years of consistency, why he one day got up to say something so brazen? Was it a last ditch
attempt to turn the tide or he just helplessly prophesized? Whatever, but this was perhaps the harshest
word he ever spoke publicly against a person.
A man of his wisdom and humility calling a probable prime minister disaster for the nation picks up a
challenge to be appraised in the history only for a single utterance. That was brave on the part of this
nearly apolitical prime minister of India. He didnt have two tongues, one for the ballot battle and
another for the parliamentary talk, other politicians often found alternating and Mr Modi brashly
displayed.
If theres a truth in Mon Mohan Singhs prophesy, the key lies in future, and the packet in Mr. Modis
chest. If comes out, it would mean the development and good governance for which Mr Modi, his
cohorts, and handlers are leaving no stone unturned is peoples advance reward for a generous
assessment of his disastrous plans. In other words, we are here watching an attempt to write the
Second Act of Gujarat Play first.
And if Mr. Modi takes his government through a five year term without raking Hindutva agenda (you
never know because he flawlessly speaks two languages in one script), he will be writing a new history
of India, and Mr. Man Mohan Singh and his single harsh utterance will be mostly forgotten for
inconsequentiality, and sparingly remembered for the jibe it would earn.
