Education System

The American school system basically divides the students into separate grades based on the
chronological age. These grades can be further divided into three major categories namely, Primary,
intermediate and secondary education. The lecturer casts doubt on the effectiveness of this kind of
school system. The professor believes that the system doesn't takes into account some key factors that
are pivotal for an effective education system.
Firstly, the education system doesn't take into account the difference in the academic readiness and
maturity of different individuals. For example, some 4 or 5 year old may have the mental ability to join
the school but the education system discourages such students and takes only the student above the
age of 6 years. Also, the grades system doesn't consider the difference in physical and social maturity of
girls and boys of the same age and places them into the same grade. This seriously undermine the
effectiveness of the education system
Secondly, the lecturer casts doubts on the effectiveness of the promotion criteria of the American
school system. According to the system, a student who fails even a part of subject may have to repeat
the entire grade. This results in boredom and poor self confidence in students repeating the grade.
Lastly, the system, as pointed out in lecture, takes test to judge the ability of an individual rather than a
group. Some students can learn much faster than others while other takes time to learn. This result in an
inefficient system as the proceeding of the education would be either too slow or too fast for of the
students and would result in wastage of mental abilities of mentally acute students.
