Abstract
The aim of the study was to investigate the role of "knowledge
management and its relationship to the performance in colleges and the
Middle Technical Institutes in the Gaza Strip."
The study samples were the full-time faculty members and heads of
administrative departments in five colleges who hold doctorate, masters and
bachelor of the academic year (2011/2010). They were (455) person. (61.3%)
(279 persons) were selected randomly.
The descriptive analytical approach was used to achieve the objectives
of the study, and to access the necessary data, a special questionnaire was
developed consisting of three areas: (requirements of knowledge
management, knowledge management processes, Institutional performance)
included fifty nine items.
The statistical packages program (SPSS) and the following statistical
methods were used for data processing: ( percentages, frequencies, arithmetic
average, Cronbach's coefficient alpha, Spearman's Rank Correlation
Coefficient, the signal test, Mann-Whitney test, and Kruskal-Wallis test ).
The most important results of the study were:
1. The availability of knowledge needs in the Middle Technical Institutes
was as follows: Data and information (71.98%), tacit knowledge (79.64%)
explicit knowledge (72.72%), infrastructure and technological (81.43%)
and the field of human capital was (69.35%).
2. The degree of cognitive awareness in the Middle Technical Institutes was
as follows: planning and implementation (57.00%), Involvement of the
external databases (54.45%), while the field of information security was
(69.35%).
3. The Middle Technical Institutes' staff practicing of knowledge
management processes was as follows: Knowledge diagnosis (75.50%)
knowledge generation (71.86%), knowledge storage (74.45%), knowledge
distribution (72.00%), and the knowledge applying was more
less = (64.54%).

4. There is no statistically significant differences between the averages of


study's samples of the knowledge management role and its impact on
performance which due to sex.
5. There is a statistically significant relation between he averages of study's
samples of the knowledge management role and its impact on performance
which due to the workplace. The results indicate to the superiority of the
University College of Applied Sciences and Gaza training Center
UNRWA (GTC).
6. There is a statistically significant relation between he averages of study's
samples of the knowledge management role and its impact on performance
which due to the length of service, in which the results show more years
of experience
.
The most important recommendations of the study :
1. The necessity of knowledge management as an input to develop and
improve individual and institutional performance for Middle Technical
Institutes.
2. Paying attention to generating knowledge, developing methods of storage
expand the partnership by providing the appropriate environment, and
building an organizational culture that adopts knowledge management as
approach.
3. The necessity of applying knowledge management processes in all
activities in the Middle Technical Institutes and to keep up with scientific
and technological developments.
4. The necessity of planning an appropriate strategy for knowledge
management in the Middle Technical Institutes.
5. The necessity of developing the individual and organizational performance
by improving the organizational climate, developing an effective
performance based on a clear principles and criteria, and rising an
incentive system to rewards the knowledge efforts of the staff.
