To address this huge inequity, I introduced legislation in the Senate, Senate Blll #5726-,{ to provide you with property tax relief and the same protections that are enjoyed by owners of one, t'*'o and three family homes. I am very pleased to tell you tha as+agsedjhe Senate in a historic voje. It is now up to the State Assembly to follow suit. My legislation will create a new residential property tax class (class 1a) for co-ops and condos in order to bring the property tax assessments in line'*'ith how taxes are assessed on class one properlies which include one, two and three family homes. Currently co-ops and condos are classified as class two properties which include commercial residential properties. The manner in which they are currently assessed involves a comparison to "comparable" commercial residential rental properties which is inherently flawed and accounts for vour extremely high property taxes. This will end under my legislation, which will significantly lower your property taxes and at the same time institute the same tax increase limitations that one, two and three family homes currently have. Sincerely, Senator Tony Avella o
