Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
InTASC Standard:
Standard #6: Assessment
The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own
growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teachers and learners decision making.

Brief Description of Evidence:
During the 2013 fall semester Literacy Development through Childrens Literature course, I
created multiple lesson plans to support my knowledge of the Indiana State Standards and
multiple literature genres.

Analysis of What I Learned:
Through completion of these lesson plans, I learned that childrens literature can be related to
multiple other subject areas. Within each other subject area, multiple assessments can be utilized
to measure student development.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard:
Through the creation of this lesson plan, I proved that literature can be used to teach more than
just reading and writing. By combining multiple subject areas with literature, students can build
upon more of a foundation as their educational career progresses. Through the execution of this
lesson plan, I have put multiple assessment strategies into practice. While understanding the
multiple ways students can learn, I have given multiple ways for them to be assessed so that all
results are unbiased.
