CITY OF FAIRMONT POLICE OFFICER

The City of Fairmont is accepting applications for Police Officer.



Requirements for Applicants:

Must be between the age of 18 and 40 on the date of application;

Must possess a valid drivers license;

Must have a high school diploma or GED;
Candidates who are currently certified by the WV Board of Law Enforcement Professional Standards, will receive five
points on the exam;

Must, within one year of the date of appointment, establish and maintain a permanent residence within 15 air miles of
the Marion County Courthouse (N 39.484930 - W80.143429).

Must successfully complete and pass various mandatory examinations.

A $20.00 testing fee is required at the time of written exam.

Applications and informational packets may be obtained at the City Clerks Office, City/County Complex, 200 Jackson
Street, Room 312, Fairmont, West Virginia between 8:30 a.m., June 25, 2014 and 1:00 p.m., August 20, 2014. The last
day to accept applications is 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014. The physical agility test and written examination
will be given on September 6, 2014.
SALARY
Salary for Probationary Officer $31,225
Salary after 1 year probation period $37,117
INSURANCE
Public Employees Insurance Association (PEIA), new employees will cover 20% of their insurance costs. See
www.peia.wv.gov for further details.
SICK LEAVE
New officers will accrue sick leave at the rate of 1.85 hours per bi-weekly pay, which averages out to 6 days per
year. Sick leave may not be used during the probationary period.
HOLIDAYS
Legal holidays are based on 2-2-1 of the WV Code. There are currently 12, plus any election days.
VACATION
New police officers earn vacation at the rate of 3.08 hours per bi-weekly pay, under the currently FOP collective
bargaining agreement. Vacation is accrued but cannot be used until the probationary period has ended.
1-5 years service 10 days
6-10 years service 15 days
11-15 years service 20 days
16-20 years service 25 days
21+ years service 30 days

PERSONAL DAYS

Police officers receive 6 personal days per year. The personal days of new hires are pro-rated based on their first day of
employment. Personal time may be utilized during the probationary period.
