INTRODUCTION

GOAL: Find the best AC winding design
using optimization techniques (Genetic
Algorithm)
Development of a software capable to find
the best winding design to a given number
of slots, poles and phases, generator
dimensions and material parameters.

What is the best AC winding design?
Multi-objective Optimization Problem

1.Air Gap MMF Fundamental
2.Rotor Losses (vs Sum of Air Gap MMF
Harmonics)
3.Balanced Conditions
THEORETICAL
BACKGROUND
SUM MMF HARMONICS vs
ROTOR AND IRON LOSSES

Losses dont describe correctly the
machine operation
The same ammount of mmf harmonic
content may have different losses
The losses give a clearer view about
machine operation and costs

GENETIC ALGORITHM

Randomly generated population with individuals with specific
genome length;
Calculate the fitness of each individual of the population and
rate him with a fitness value;
Selection of the individuals with the best fitness values, the
parents;
With a certain probability (established), a part of the new
generation is created from the parents using the crossover
operation and the other part using mutation;
Replace the current generation with the new one;
Repeat from step 2 until the stopping criteria are achieved

GOAL: Use the software to produce a
better solution than the GL-PMG-20K

efficient and/or chaper generator?
