OPT PROCESS
1. Review information: OPT Guide, OPT workshop, or the OPT section of ISSO website.
2. Obtain an OPT I-20 and mailing instructions from the ISSO. a. Pay OPT fee online: http://utdallas.edu/isso/ptfee. b. Complete OPT Request Form and Form I-765 and submit them to the ISSO in person or to ISSOCurrent@utdallas.edu. c. Receive an email within 3 business days that the I-20 is ready for pickup.
3. Assemble/mail application to USCIS Texas Service Center. a. Form G-1145 (Optional, provided by ISSO, USCIS will email/text processing updates) b. 2 passport photos c. $380 check or money order made payable to Department of Homeland Security d. Original Form I-765 e. Copy of OPT I-20, pages 1 and 3 f. Copy of passport ID page g. Copy of I-94, front and back h. Copy of F-1 visa i. CPT printout (provided by ISSO) j. Copies of former OPT EADs, if any
4. If approved, you will receive an OPT Employment Authorization Document (EAD). The normal processing time for USCIS is three months.
5. Follow OPT employment reporting procedures.
