Intro to Art – Unit 5, Bringing it All Together

STAR BOOK INTERIOR PAGES

You will create a starbook in order to review all the principles of design and different journaling
techniques.

Supplies: Folder; 4 pieces of white drawing paper cut in 6” squares; pencil; black pen; watercolor;
colored pencils; markers

• Using pencil, make a design that has visual rhythm.
• Include a definition from your notes.
• Outline the pencil in black line and then color in the design using colored pencils.
• Make a watercolor wash over the background to make it more interesting.

MOVEMENT, and INFORMAL BALANCE
• Divide the page into four equal parts
• Using pencil, in each block write the principle, define it, and
make a mini-illustration.
• Outline in black pen and add color where needed
• Use watercolor washes to color each block in an appropriate
color.

HARMONY, PROPORTION, VARIETY, and EMPHASIS.
• Divide the page into four equal parts
• Using pencil, in each block write the principle, define it, and
make a mini-illustration.

• In each block, define each of the four steps of an art criticism (use the Art Criticism Cheatsheet).
Don’t forget the three theories of art in the second step, Analysis!
• Use pencil first and outline in black pen. Use color pencil to make it interesting.
• Don’t forget the title and definition.
• Color the design with an analogous color scheme in watercolor bands.
