1. TEKS Student will learn the letter associated with the sound Objective Students will listen for the sound and then search for the associated letter 2. Big Understanding Understanding the common sounds that letters represent will help them break down words as they begin to read on their own. 3. Assessment Evidence Students will be creating their own Alphabet book one page at a time, throughout the semester. On each page they will have the letter and pictures of things that begin with the letter. This will all be done on the computer. There will be letters and pictures that they can easily access. 4. Opening Hook Read the book: Wild Alphabet: an A to Zoo pop-up book 5. Instructional Strategies/Activities We will go on a safari hunt for Alphabets! Each child will receive hand crafted binoculars. We will use the classroom out outside to search for the letters of the Alphabet. The students will have to listen to hear what sound I make and the go off and search for the associated letter. 6. Materials/Resources -Medium to Large card board letter -scissors -Small card board letters -reward(gold coins) -Binoculars -a bag for small letters -toilet paper rolls -pipe cleaners to hold the two pieces of toilet rolls together 7. Grouping Patterns -students will be group by the first letters of their name -if it is a small class, students will be individual 8. Ending, Summary/Reflection Let students pick a letter out of the magical bag we will find at the end of our safari. Each student will pick a letter and then I will ask them to say the sound of the letter; once the say the right sound I will switch the letter for the gold coin (the letter will magically turn into the gold coin).
