GREECE (officially the Hellenic Republic)

Politic.
Greece is currently a parliamentary republic.
The President is elected every five years by the Hellenic Parliament.
Greece is an European Union (EU) member since 1981.

Geography.
Located at the southern end Peninsula on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Its area is
132,562 km including inland basin of the Aegean islands and islets. According to
demographic studies of the World Bank, the population of this country is of 11,280,167
inhabitants.
With around 9,000 islands, islets and rocky outcrops, 15,021 km of coastline

50% of Greece is covered by forest vegetation, ranging from alpine conifer Mediterranean
vegetation.

Religion.
The Greek Constitution guarantees absolute freedom of religion. Under the Constitution,
the "prevailing religion" is the Greek Orthodox Church based in the capital city of Athens.
Sports.
The contribution of Greece to the Olympic Games has been outstanding; from antiquity to
the creation of the original games of Olympia, where to modern Athens has hosted twice
(1896 and 2004),
Activities.
Greece is a country where religion is presented in many cases, for example: The festivals.
Most festivals in Greece take place in summer. Every ceremony is done on the occasion of
the name day of the protector saint in a village or town. There are also cultural festivals
with various events. These festivals constitute an integral part of the local culture and
attract many visitors.
Many cultural events take place in Greece all year round. Particularly famous is the Athens
Epidaurus Greek Festival, with events in the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, the Herodeion
Theatre in Athens and other venues. Such festivals with music concerts, theatre
performances, lectures and custom revivals take place in all Greek islands and towns,
usually in summer, presenting the local culture and occasionally hosting international
participations.
