Unit Title: The 3 Little Pigs and the 5 Elements write a story.

STAGE 2 ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE
Performance Tasks:
Students will create a whole class short story
with help from the MS.
Students will work together as a group to create
a group short story on the iPad using the
Toontastic app.




Other Evidence:
During group times students will fill in graphic
organizers depicting how the want their short
story to turn out.
Key Criteria:

Using the Toontastic app on the iPad, students must create a story that includes all 5 elements (characters, setting,
plot, problem and solution) of a short story.

STAGE 3 LEARNING PLAN
Summary of Learning Activities:


Week 1:

Students will view a Smartboard lesson with the MS that explains the 5 elements of a short story. (See Attachments)
Students will then watch a video on BrainPop Jr. that goes over the 5 elements of a short story.

MS will read the story The 3 Little Pigs.
After the story, the MS will review the previous Smartboard lesson and have students fill in the elements that were in the story.
As a Ticket Out the Door, students will call out one element of a story, remaining students will tell me the definition of a
named element.

Week 2:
Students will review with MS the 5 elements of a short story.
Students will then use the Smartboard lesson from the previous week to create their own story elements.
Students will then use those 5 elements to write a collaborative class story, that is typed on the Smartboard as they watch.

Week 3:
Students are shown the Toontastic app on the iPad and MS explains that they get to write their own group story and use the
app to create a video of their story.
Students use a graphic organizer to help plan out the 5 elements of their story. (See Attachments)

Week 4:
Students use a new graphic organizer to further plan their story. (See Attachments)
Students assign parts that each group member will play in their story on Toontastic.

Week 5:
Using Toontastic and their graphic organizers, students will act out their story and have the video published to be viewed by
classmates.


**If students wish, they can use the following apps to create more stories StoryKeepers, Writing Prompts, and Story
Plot Generator.
