    Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas is no longer able to make insulin or when the body cannot make good use of the insulin it produces. Diabetes results in abnormally high blood sugar levels that over time can lead to serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. There are 382 million people living with diabetes worldwide with that number expected to rise to 592 million by 2035 as a result of an aging population and increasing rates of obesity.
