Brandon High School won the Mississippi qualifier for the National Select 7on7 Championship Series. Brandon went undefeated until the championship game, defeating Robinson, Central Phenix City, and Florence to advance. In the championship, Brandon defeated Starkville 23-20 after losing the first game. Brandon will now compete in the national championship in Hoover, Alabama from July 17-19 to prove they are the best team in the country.

Tupelo, MS Brandon High School won the Mississippi Qualifier this past weekend in Tupelo, MS. The Bulldogs, who were undefeated in pool and bracket play until the championship game, proved that they are the team to beat in the state of Mississippi.
Brandon boasted an impressive pool play record of 6-0 after the first day of competition. The Bulldogs continued their winning streak in bracket play, defeating Robinson 32-22, Central Phenix City 26-19, and Florence 30-12. Brandon advanced to the Championhips and began the waiting game to see who would be their opponent.
I thought our kids played really well, said Head Coach Brad Peterson. It was hot and our kids won 9 in a row. We lost the first game of the championship and came back and won it all.
Starkville had a pool play record of 4-2 entering the second day of competition. The Yellow Jackets started the second day of competition off strong, defeating Long Beach 41-8, but their winning was short lived. Starkville was sent to the losers bracket after losing 25-17 to Central Phenix City.
The Yellow Jackets, determined to make it back to the championship game, powered through the losers bracket, defeating Hillcrest 23-8, Desoto Central 32-0, Olive Branch 37- 33, Central Phenix City 16-8, and Florence 28-14. Starkville had now reclaimed a spot in the championship game against Brandon.
Aftering suffering a loss in the first championship game, the Bulldogs perservered. Brandon defeated Starkville 23-20, putting an end to the Yellow Jackets winning streak.
There were only 14 teams that competed, but all 14 teams were very talented. Starkville, Olive Branch, Florence, and Phenix City are all very talented teams. The tournament involved a lot of quality teams with a lot of quality talent, said Peterson.
Brandon will now have the opportunity to show that they are not only the best team in Mississippi, but the best team in the country when they compete for the National Championship in Hoover, AL July 17-19.
