Dear all,

In preparation for Seminar 2, can all students please read chapter one of Dead White Men (Not
Chapter zero as it says in the handbook). Also, having already read the Hamilton reading on
Enlightenment and the Birth of Social Science for the lecture, in particular, you should re-read from
Section 6 (The birth of sociology: Saint-Simon and Comte) onwards in preparation for the seminar.
Having done so, please come to the seminar with a blog (250 words) about the following: What did
you like about the chapter in Dead White Men? What, if anything, did you find confusing about the
reading? Why is sociology relevant to your everyday life?
Please note, announcements posted on here regarding seminar readings/written work will reiterate
what you are told in the lecture, and unless otherwise stated will refer to all students, regardless of
whether Hannah, Jo or I post them.

Cheers,

Chris
