EQUITY: 9 TYPES OF ACCOMMODATIONS AND MODIFICATIONS

BUSINESS EDUCATION 7-12 GRADE



QUALITY

1. Reduce the number of terms a learner must
learn at any one time.

2. Allow completion of tasks in chunks until
the student has met the objective.

3. Ask the student to complete every other
problem.

TIME

1. Give student more time to work on complex
processes.

2. Give student fewer problems over an
extended period of time to practice.

3. Work with student in advance so they can
generate ideas to contribute to group work.
LEVEL OF SUPPORT

1. Increase the amount of personal assistance
with a specific learner.

2. Assign a classmate or TA to help student
complete each problem.

3. Ask peers to assist by giving cues and
prompts.
INPUT

1. Use different visual aids, plan concrete
examples, provide hands-on activities.

2. Place students in cooperative groups.

3. Ask other students to provide additional
directions and information to assist student.

DIFFICULTY

1. Allow the use of worksheets, calculator to
figure math problems; simplify task directions.

2. Change rules to accommodate learner
needs.

3. Simplify directions, and provide cues on
difficult tasks.
OUTPUT

1. Adapt how learner can respond to the
instruction.

2. Use other evaluation techniques instead of
pencil and paper testing methods.

3. Allow student to dictate answers to peers
who can write them on a team list.
PARTICIPATION

1. Student can assist in passing materials to
the class or other group members.

2. Adapt to the level of participation expected
during class instructions and task.

3. Allow student to work with other students
while taking a test.

ALTERNATIVE GOALS

1. Allow expect student to identify less
complex terms and concepts than other abled
students.

2. Focus on remaining with the cooperative
group and using an appropriate voice level for
the class project.

3. Ask student to read aloud instead of written
words.
SUBSTITUTE CURRICULUM

1. Allow student to use a computer to
recognize key words during the lesson.

2. Have student use calculator to balance
accounting worksheets.

3. Assign student a job coach during
community functional learning skills.
