    The efforts of this study aim at improving the CBR characteristics of fine-grained
    soil by the addition of sand. The fine-grained soil has been taken from Bemina
    area, Srinagar and by the investigations on the characteristic properties of the
    soil it has been found that it was silt-dominated soil. The study of the effect of
    sand on the soil so obtained indicates that the value of CBR becomes maximum
    at an optimum percentage of sand so added.
    The sand had been chosen considering its viability as a cheap material and free
    availability in the locality.
