7. DISCUSSION .

This study was done in order to nd the effect of high intensity progressive
resistance strength training in improving the functional performance of lower limb
in hemiplegic patients. The study is a pre-test post-test experimental study. 30
patients were randomly selected and were assigned into experimental and control
group. The experimental group received high intensity progressive resistance
training for the lower extremity and the control group received only conventional
physiotherapy to improve functional performance of lower limb in hemiplegic
patients for 12 wees. The outcomes measures were measured with !ugl meyer
scale.
The data were analysed using paired t test it showed signicant difference in the
treatment outcome. "nalysis by independent t test showed that there was
significant difference between experimental group and control
group in !ugl meyer scores.
#elorme stated that the prevailing approach to restoring atrophied$ wea or
neglected muscles relied on developing muscular endurance$ not muscular strength
and power. #elorme challenged conventional wisdom by advocating heavy
resistance exercise. %e reasoned that proportionality existed between the load
resisting the muscle action and the rate and extent & of muscle hyperlirophy.
#elorme predicted that an inactive or in'ured
