Procedure:
Today I will explain and demonstrate the process of dismissing the class at the end of
school.

Rationale:
It is important that all students leave the school together in an appropriate manner. I must
be sure that students who are picked up are done so by their legal guardian, the bus riders are
properly escorted to their buses, and the students who walk home are led away safely. I am
responsible for all of my students and will see that they are safe. This procedure would assist me
in doing so.

Explain and Model:
This procedure will be performed in 5 steps:
1. Toward the end of the day, I will tell you all to clean your desks and put everything
away.
2. Once your table is quiet, I will instruct your group to get your backpacks from your
cubbies. You will then return to your seats and sit quietly.
3. When all students have their backpacks, I will then dismiss each table to line up at
the door quietly in a single file manner.
4. We will then walk together to the bus lot. I will take role again, then dismiss all of
the bus riders.
5. The rest of us will make our way outside the building. I will dismiss the students
who walk home and make sure they head off safely. The rest of you will stay in line
with me until your parent arrives. YOU WILL NOT LEAVE UNTIL YOUR
PARENT HAS CHECKED WITH ME!

Check for understanding:
When do you get your backpacks?
When do you line up at the door?
Who will give you permission to leave the line?

Practice the Procedure:
Now that I have shown all of you the proper steps, you will now practice!

Give specific Feedback:
Praise the students for performing each step correctly and help the ones that do not.
